Day 8: The History Behind Morven

We’re halfway through our second week and racing to the finish line of Block A. Students are gearing up to write final papers and give presentations on Friday – just two days away!

Today we had a lunchtime talk from Morven’s historical specialist, Laura Voisin George, who gave us a more in-depth look at the history of the property.

Laura Voisin George gives a presentation on the history behind Morven.

Students were excited to learn about Indians who once hunted in this area and Mr. Jefferson’s connections to the property. Laura gave us all a much better sense of the layers of history that surround us here. Students in Block B will get an even closer look when we visit the archaeological dig site just a few steps away from the Meeting Barn that Washington and Lee will be working on in the coming weeks.

Students take a break and play frisbee in front of “Sagacious Heads” – Morven’s resident statues by Magdalena Abakanowicz.

We saved one of the coolest activities for last – tomorrow, we’re having a cooking demonstration!
